Celebration of Indigenous People’s Day

Join the Leland Cultural Campus Partners for a community celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, honoring the history, living cultures, and enduring presence of Indigenous peoples in Leelanau County and beyond.
Throughout the day, enjoy opportunities to experience and learn about Anishinaabek history and culture, including drumming and dancing in the afternoon, free admission to the Leelanau Historical Society Museum and its Traditional Anishinaabek Arts Room, and an opportunity to learn about the Kchi-wiikwedong Anishinaabek History Project, along with other cultural and educational activities.
At 6:30 p.m., join James Vukelich Kaagegaabaw, a descendant of Turtle Mountain, international speaker, author, educator, and creator of Ojibwe Word of the Day. James is the author of The Seven Generations and the Seven Grandfather Teachings and is recognized for his work exploring the deep connections between Anishinaabemowin (the Ojibwe language), culture, and traditional teachings.
